You’re curious and learning allll the things, yet you feel like you aren’t makin’ moves.
First, it’s awesome that you are open to change — acquiring new tools + knowledge and shifting your mindset to support your growth (I see you!) — so why does it feel like you are not moving forward?
Without engaging in the process of unlearning, it’s as if you’re taking two steps back.
Unlearning is simply (ha) releasing previously held paradigms, ingrained thoughts/habits or outdated business models. Completely letting go of old ways frees up space for relearning new ones that may likely serve you or your business better.
We amass tons of new info or tech and oftentimes, for many reasons, continue on autopilot with ‘the way it’s always been done.’
To expand beyond our current state, decide what it is you are trying to accomplish (relearn) and reflect on what you need to UNLEARN to make things happen or grow forward.
For example, if you have an intention to start practicing yoga to be more mindful throughout your day it’s not only about showing up to your mat regularly (amazing start tho).
It also requires the practice of unlearning the things that deter you from mindfulness when you are not practicing yoga (requiring constant evaluation and patience ;)). Then relearn by implementing your new mindfulness gains from your yoga practice in those areas off your yoga mat.
In biz, you may be inspired to be a more empathetic leader (goal).
Are you aware of the ways, areas or situations in which you are not showing up as an empathetic leader (reflection/evaluation)?
Choose and practice models of thinking or behaviors that reflect empathy instead of the previous ineffective or undesirable actions/situations from above (unlearning + relearning).
IT’S A PROCESS!!!
The reflection piece is crucial for unlearning. Without examining and knowing what to unlearn and why, relearning can be stalled keeping you in your patterns and truly embracing change or growth remains more challenging than it already is.
You’ve already taken the first steps. KEEP GOING!
What have you committed to relearning? What will you unlearn?
